ABOUT EDEN'S ROSE

In Search of Eden: The Journey So Far

Eden's Rose, originally known as Nelly Shin, is a Canadian singer-songwriter, pianist and composer based on the West Coast. Her music has graced the stages of concert halls and has been broadcast on radio and television at home and abroad. She has recorded two vocal albums, four instrumental albums, and an EP.

Nelly’s family immigrated from South Korea to Canada when she was five. She first studied piano at age eight and, by fifteen, penned her first piano composition, Yearning, which appears on her instrumental album, In Search of Eden (2013). During her teens, Nelly's original compositions won several awards at the Kiwanis Music Festival of Greater Toronto, including two Firsts.

Nelly's love for music led her to study composition and piano at the University of Toronto Faculty of Music, where she earned a Bachelor of Music. Upon graduation, she entered Christian service as a Gospel singer, choral conductor and worship pastor. She prolifically penned many gospel songs during that period but has released only a few to date, of which When I See Your Face in Heaven (Heaven's Best EP, 2011) is one.

In 2001, she earned a Bachelor of Music at the University of Toronto and worked for the public school board as a high school English and music teacher. During this time, she composed and recorded her self-titled debut album, Nelly Shin (2005). Her first single, Marrow of My Heart, received radio rotation on Adult Contemporary stations in Canada, the US, the UK, Australia and Japan.

While rising to recognition as a recording artist, Nelly entered a profound season of soul searching. She transitioned from pursuing the commercial music scene to a wilderness journey of missionary life. She folded her teaching career, sold her home, downsized, and lived within limited means for almost a decade while serving the hurting and marginalized members of society.

Nelly gave herself the artist name Eden's Rose and continued to create music with the goal of helping people experience emotional-spiritual healing. Listeners describe Eden's Rose's instrumental music as therapeutic, contemplative, and relaxing.

Her music continued to receive exposure on the radio with her Christmas ballad, Till You Came for Me My King, which played on Canadian Christian radio stations. Although there was no radio campaign, Rhythm of Your Dreams, reached No. 4 on Norberg's Adult Contemporary Music Research Letter's Recommended rotation list after singles by Celine Dion, Sara Evans, and Idina Menzel's Let it Go (Portland, OR).

Ms. Shin's service of compassion and justice on the front lines of teaching and urban missions converged with politics in 2019 when she was elected as the first Korean-born Member of Canada’s Parliament for the Electoral District of Port Moody—Coquitlam in British Columbia.

She launched her sophomore vocal album, Believe in Love, in December 2023 at an intimate gathering of friends in Port Moody, British Columbia. When I'm With You, the third track on the album,  recently earned a spot on Norberg's Recommended Radio Rotation list (Portland, OR).

Believe in Love tells the story of heartache, broken dreams and finding rest in divine love. The album includes two covers—John Denver's Annie's Song and the Eagles' Desperado.

Ms. Shin anticipates soon releasing her first novel and continues to perform and share her personal story while contributing to Canadian politics.
